Miyagi Prefecture anchors the Tohoku region as its largest city, Sendai, pulses with festivals, cuisine and culture. The crown jewel is Matsushima Bay — ranked among Japan’s three most scenic views since the Edo period — where pine-forested islands dot a pristine inland sea. The prefecture is equally famed for its seafood: Sanriku oysters, sea urchin and flaky gindara (sablefish) are among the finest in Japan.
