Wakayama Prefecture occupies the southern Kii Peninsula, a UNESCO-listed landscape of sacred mountains and pilgrimage routes. Koyasan (Mt. Koya) has been the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism since 816 AD — pilgrims still sleep in ancient temple lodgings (shukubo) among towering cryptomeria cedar. The Kumano Kodo network of forest trails links three Grand Shrines across rugged mountains, while Nachi Falls — at 133 metres Japan’s tallest single-drop waterfall — tumbles behind a vermilion pagoda in one of Japan’s most photographed scenes.

高野山の宿坊文化、世界遺産・熊野古道の巡礼体験、那智の滝と熊野那智大社、そして白浜の温泉と白砂ビーチ。和歌山は日本の聖地と南国リゾートが共存する稀有な県です。
